Joseph A. Doucette Jr.
Rockland — Joseph Albert Doucette Jr., 64, passed away peacefully Dec. 5, 2012, at his home in Rockland. Joe had a kind, joyful spirit, always meeting others with a bright smile and sense of humor.
Joe was born in Malden, Mass. on May 28, 1948, the son of Joseph and Bernice Doucette. He graduated from Malden Catholic High School in 1966 and from Boston University, where he studied systems engineering, in 1970.
Joe moved to Maine after college, settling in Cape Elizabeth. He married Cynthia (Bishop) Doucette in 1973 and they had three children. He deeply enjoyed teaching math and computer programming for 15 years, the majority of which he spent at Deering High School in Portland.
After teaching, and for 20 years, Joe owned and operated Logical Choice, a computer services business with a storefront on Forest Avenue in Portland.
In 2001, Joe married Carney (McRae) Doucette, with whom he particularly enjoyed traveling and learning about other cultures. Joe was also passionate about painting wildlife and landscapes, photography, and kayaking.
In 2004, Joe was blessed to receive a heart transplant. With his new heart, he was able to attend his daughters’ weddings, see his son graduate from college, and welcome his three grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Carney, of Rockland; his aunt and godmother, Mary Roberta Carroll, of Stoneham, Mass.; by his children, Nicole Flynn, her husband Seth Flynn and their daughters Chloe and Alexandra of Brunswick; Michelle Hartman, her husband Nate and their son Elliot of Wallingford, Conn.; and Jeffrey Doucette of Cape Elizabeth; by his sisters, Regina Driscoll and her husband Ray of Melrose, Mass.; Roberta Fowler of Woburn, Mass.; Betsy McLean and her husband Kenneth of Medford, Mass.; Rhoda Astone and her husband Frank of Burlington, Mass.; and Andrea Valletta and her husband Albert of Cary, N.C.
