The Riley School, in Glen Cove announces the retirement of 26 year veteran facilitator Joani Mitchell from the faculty. Joani is planning to finish her college degree at UMA and continue her self-employment in theater and music locally. The Music program at The Riley School consists of classes in Music Composition, History, Theory, Ear Training, and Vocal Ensembles for children ages 4 – 14. Most children at Riley experience music daily, either writing original pieces, singing in groups, or through active listening. The Riley School has always valued music as an integral part of the developing child. Riley’s Music program will continue under the apt leadership of Steve Weston, who has an extensive and varied background in both choral in instrumental music and resides in Belfast. “This is a time of transition for The Riley School,” says School Director Rebecca Clapp, “but our commitment to the Arts is unwavering and we are confident that the strong music program Joani leaves in place is in excellent hands..” Steve Weston, an Adjunct Instructor at UMO and the former Artistic Director of the Bangor Children’s choirs, will begin with The Riley School in the fall of this year.
