Cape Elizabeth — Jo A. Costales, 70, of Orchard Road, Cape Elizabeth, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, surrounded by her loving family.

Jo was born in Rockland, a daughter of Albert J. and Mary Sullivan. She was educated in Rockland schools and was a graduate of Rockland High School, Class of 1961. She was also a graduate of Beautician School.

When she met her husband, Egidio, she claimed that was her special day and she knew he was the one for her. They were married May, 18, 1962.

Jo worked for Fairchild Semiconductor and retired after more than 40 years.

She and her family were longtime residents of Cape Elizabeth and attended St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge in Scarborough.

Her hobbies included reading, shopping, crossword puzzles, baking and spending time with her family. She was known for her heart of gold, making the best peanut butter fudge, and always helping others. Jo loved all holidays, but Thanksgiving and Christmas were her favorites. Her house was always decorated and she was often referred to as Santa.

She was predeceased by her husband and her parents.

She is survived by her two sons, Egidio S. Costales Jr. and his wife Lori of Minot, Paul Albert Costales of Cape Elizabeth and daughter in-law she considered her own Donna J. Costales of Cape Elizabeth; two sisters, Mary Ella Woods and her husband James of Rockland, Rae Ellen Leach and her husband Steve of Union; brother, Daniel J. Sullivan and his wife Judy of St. George; an uncle Edward “EJ” Sullivan of Rockland, five grandchildren, Nicole Swift and her husband Joshua of New Gloucester, David Seavey and his wife Chalize of South Portland, Paul A. Costales of Minot, Keiana Alabre of Cape Elizabeth, Michael Paul Waddell of Auburn; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel E. Swift of New Gloucester and Silas G. Seavey of South Portland.

Visiting hours will be Friday, May 30, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, May 31, at noon at Holy Cross Catholic Church in South Portland. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.

Jo’s family would like to express their sincere thanks to everybody at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House for all the special care that was given to her at her time of need.
