Jazzy weekend at Rock City
Rockland — The Velvet Lounge series at Rock City Cafe, 316 Main St., will welcome back two jazz acts this weekend. The live music will run from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday nights, June 13 and 14.
Cole Barbour and Aaron Clarke have been making music together for more than six years now and will do so again Friday. One of their most recent endeavors, Barbour Clarke Jazz Duo offers two guitars applied to traditional jazz standards, occasionally dusted off and given a 21st-century feel.
On Saturday, By The Bay Jazz Trio will perform arrangements of works by many composers from the Golden Age of American Song, as well as numerous Latin rhythm standards. The trio consists of Dennis Gurgul on percussion, a recent resident of Boston and a prominent member of the Boston jazz scene; Shaun Bolduc on bass, member of numerous bands, a studio musician of note and a graduate of the University of Maine Jazz/Contemporary Music Program; and Dick White, recently of Washington State, previous member of ragtime and jazz ensembles and a member of Midcoast Maine’s Mondaynite Jazz Orchestra.
Rock City’s meal service extends until closing on music nights. For more information on this and other events happening at the coffeebar/cafe, call 594-4123 or find it on Facebook.
