Jacobs' ace, Cry Baby event, women's play at RGC
Rockland — The Rockland Golf Club has been plenty busy recently with its weekly women's play, lots of crying on the course and even a hole-in-one.
On Oct. 5, Tom Jacobs recorded the fourth ace of his golfing career, this one on the 125-yard 18th hole on the Rockland course. He used a 7-iron for his tee shot. The ace was witnessed by his playing partners Chandler Woodman and Armand Plourd.
On Oct. 6 in the always enjoyable Cry Baby Tournament, an event where the holes/pins are placed in the most difficult spots on the greens, the team of Rich Mazurek, Pete Pittman, Jim Flanagan and Jan Splaine finished first gross 66 for 18 holes. There was a tie for first net between the teams of Nick Mazurek, Tom Levasseur, David Clough and Bobbi Andrus, as well as Neil Welt, Tom Griffith, Bob Rector and Jeanne Fifield, both with 49. Third net 49.75 went to the team of Vic Goldsmith, Steve Little, Woody Greenier and Madolin Fogarty.
On Oct. 3 in a nine-hole scramble for the women's golf association, Fogarty, Wendy Dewing and Joan Hall finished first gross 38; Fifield, Betty Farrand and Janice Ogier, second gross 40; Sue Wootton, Jan Staples and Sandy Davis, first net 24.50; and Jean Brown, Heidi Lyman and Diane Bryant, second net 24.67.
