Sunday was a nice day, as was Saturday. This weekend we picked apples, went to the fire department's open house and I tried to get a few things put away for winder so I wouldn’t have to do it all when the first snowstorm hits. I have to get my air conditioners out. AJ and Ben put them in that first hot spell we had, in May. Maybe I can get Eric and Chris to take them out, since I can't reach them. Then get someone to wash the windows- I think the air conditioners suck dust toward them.
As always I have a tablet full of notes. As I see or hear something I jot it down so I won’t forget.
It’s great how our department is including high-school boys and teaching them things. Jackson had a junior fire department years ago. It tells about them in the first Jackson history book. I couldn’t find one, but Polly found hers. It says that Alvin Littlefield and Do Constable started it. Jeff Ludden was chief, Donnie Ricker was president, Darol Porter was vice president, and Steve Porter was secretary and treasurer. Other members were Glen Porter, Jr., Alan Work and Hazen Tibbetts. It also lists fire department members. There were a lot of them, probably all gone now.
Milk Room Farmstand
The market is getting ready to close but will be open one more weekend. They will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, and Sunday, Oct. 6. If you’re getting ready for winter, stop by and get some meat for the freezer, as they have special end-of-season pricing. Fall just started and winter isn’t too far behind.
Food Panty Auction
The auction is Oct. 5, at 9:30 a.m., and will be held at the Nickerson’s residence on the Village Road in Jackson. If it rains, it will be held at the Jackson Community Center, also on the Village Road in Jackson.
Judy Ford is back home and doing well. Gee Judy, you were the talk of the area. We’re all so glad of the good news.
"Dancing With the Stars"
The show is on again Monday nights on channel 7. I think you’ll enjoy it. No, it’s not like we used to do at Jackson dance, but it is interesting. In each team, one dancer is a professional and the other is a celebrity, such as an actor, football player or sports figure. One team is voted off each week.
Gee are there a lot of hedgehogs in the roads, also coons, skunks, squirrels and I hear about a lot of deer-and-car accidents on the scanner. As for the skunks, you just can’t get away from the smell.
If you got a moose permit, good luck. The first week is over and I have seen some nice ones on TV.
I don’t want them near my house and I'm sure Ruth Shultz doesn't, as they did a lot of damage to her home. It seems that they will overtake us if some aren't disposed of one way or the other.
Have you seen Jackie and Bill Bryant’s new home after the fire in Knox? It is so pretty and I love the farmers porch (I think that’s what’s it’s called).
Aren't the fall mums pretty this year? I would like to get two to three for the cemetery but I can’t. The one at the Veteran’s Memorial looks so nice, and did you see the ones at Kilgore House in Brooks? They are so pretty.
Speaking of cemeteries, the town cemeteries have looked great all summer. Nice job, Marcus! And to whoever mows my lot and Lucille’s, thanks a bunch!
As I was on the way to Belfast, a drivers'-ed car came from behind me and was following too close so I pulled over to let them by, as I do if I have two to three cars behind me, anyhow. I never saw the drivers'-ed car again. I just can’t believe a student can control a car going so fast. Oh well. I’m a 45 mph-or-lower driver. My family won’t let me drive if they’re with me because they say I drive too slowly.
Can you believe the people standing in line for the new Apple phone? What’s wrong with your old one? Some people must have more money than people do around here and a lot are young folks. Do they have jobs?
What a terrible thing in Kenya. It seems one country calms down and another starts up. It is so hard to watch.
Shutting down the government is all we’ve heard about on TV for a week or more. I don’t think a lot of us know what it means and it just upsets everyone that everything will just stop. Maybe if they sent all the democrats and republicans home for a week or more with no pay they would think and get along and agree, but this won’t hurt them. It’s the other folks that are going to get hurt.
