Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. December’s theme is Holiday Treats.

The Dec. 20 film is "It's a Wonderful Life" from 1946, which runs 132 minutes. Frank Capra's adaptation of the short story ”The Greatest Gift” stars Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey, a good man who has spent a lifetime giving up on his dreams in order to keep life in his small town humming. When a guardian angel named Clarence finds a despondent George poised to jump off a bridge, he shows George what life would've been like had he never been born. Donna Reed co-stars as his wife in the film, which was nominated for five Oscars.

The series will continue with  “Holiday” (1938, USA), Dec. 27. Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Popcorn and drinks will be served. The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
