The State of Maine passed into Law a New Building Code, although all Towns do not need to enforce the law, builders/contractors do need to build by the law?

Before hiring a builder/contractor ask them if they are certified, if they have current insurance and if they have taken the classes provided to educate themselves in the New Laws.

Maine Contractors and Builders Alliance has a Certification Program for Builders/Contractors which requires a copy of an up-to-date insurance binder, Ethics Class, Law Class, OSHA Construction Safety Training and a Builders Code Class.  Breakwater Design & Build, Inc has completed all the training required by the Builders Alliance along with the training  provided by The State of Maine for all the Local Code Enforcement Officers.

Before you hire someone to work on your home, check to see if they are certified http://www.buildingmaine.org/index.html
