Introduction to lesser-known grains

Mar 08, 2014

Camden — Beyond America’s tried-and-true wheat, corn, and rye stretch amber waves of lesser-known grains with names like quinoa, amaranth and farro.

Quarry Hill invites adults age 55-plus to boost their “grain power” by taking part in Going with the Grains, a free educational program set for Wednesday, March 19, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill.

The Adventures in Living Well event will feature Cappy’s Chowder House chef Peter Gelman on the history and cultures surrounding some of the world’s oldest grains, many of which are now readily available to American consumers. Participants will also have an opportunity to sample exciting new grain dishes showcasing these powerhouses of taste and nutrition.

Registration is required for the presentation. To sign up, call Quarry Hill at 230-6116. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held Wednesday, March 26. from 10:30 a.m. to noon at Quarry Hill.
