International volunteers to address Maine Women's Network
On Wednesday, March 6, the Maine Women’s Network will host a guest panel dialogue with international volunteers Antonia Munroe and Hazel Seavey.
Learn more about how these two women share their separate passions for art and self-reliance to deeply improve the lives of women and children in Central America and Africa, respectively.
Munroe is an artist and arts educator who lives and works in Camden. She is the founder and director of The Art Circle, summer art workshops for children and young adults, now in its 21st year. Munroe conducts art workshops in Central America, particularly in Guatemala with Safe Passage. Safe Passage is an educational program whose mission is to improve the lives of the families who work in the Guatemala City garbage dump. Munroe teaches artist residencies with local, public and private schools in Maine. Please visit the Safe Passage website at SafePassage.org.
Seavey is the pastor of the newly re-opened Rockland Crossroads Church of the Nazarene in Rockland. For the past five years, Seavey has been traveling to the war torn country of Sudan with African Relief Ministries to work with widows in microfinance business projects and pastoral leadership training. She will just be returning from her fourth ministry trip to Southern Sudan with colleague Pastor Michael Gatkek. African Relief Ministries is a 501c3 nonprofit charity that provides training and resources to improve the physical, emotional, and spiritual well being of the people living in war torn regions of Africa. Current project resources are targeted to aid the widows and orphans of Southern Sudan by providing a nurturing environment to explore opportunities for life improvement, community teamwork and personal growth.
