Illustrated talk, book on Moss design
Rockport — Marilyn Moss Rockefeller will give an illustrated talk on Bill Moss, one of America’s most innovative fabric artists and designers, Sunday, Sept. 22, at 5 p.m. at the Center for Maine Contemporary Art, 162 Russell Ave. The talk is based on her new book, “Bill Moss: Fabric Artist & Designer,” and will emphasize Moss’s artistic and architectural work.
A wine reception with live jazz will follow the talk. Admission is $10, $8 for CMCA members; all proceeds from the lecture and book sales benefit CMCA.
In 1955, Bill Moss designed the Pop-Tent, today widely credited with changing the world of camping. In 1960 he established his own design firm, C. William Moss Associates, in Ann Arbor, Mich., and in 1975 he and Marilyn Moss co-founded Moss Tent Works in Camden to design and produce innovative, high-performance camping tents, backyard and beach products and architectural canopies.
Marilyn Moss Rockefeller went on to serve as president and CEO of Moss Inc., and in the 1980s she diversified the business by introducing tension fabric technology to the worldwide trade show industry. She is chairwoman of CMCA's board of trustees. For more information, visit cmcanow.org.
