'Ice cats' readying for adoption, Barnabus now available
Our pet pick of the week is Barnabus, a very handsome adult, long-haired tuxedo cat. Barnabus is part of the group of 39 cats the Pope Memorial Humane Society of Knox County recently rescued from a single household in one of the 20 towns we serve. We've dubbed this group of cats the "ice cats" since they were rescued on one of the most bitter cold days this winter from a house with no heat. Like many of the "ice cats," Barnabus is a little shy since he has had limited human interaction in the past two years. He has taken to the new found affection quite naturally and is grateful for all of the attention he is getting. Now that he has been cleaned up, well fed and received proper medical attention, he is ready for his happily ever after to start in a home that will properly care for him and shower him with love and affection. Over the course of the next couple of weeks, more of the ice cats will be available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these cats, please stop by the shelter and learn more. If you'd like to help with their care, we will gladly accept cash contributions, canned cat food, kitty litter and stainless steel cat food dishes.
Of course, we also have plenty of dogs available for adoption. Now until Saturday, Feb. 9, adopt any hound dog, Walker hounds, Blue Ticks, Plott hounds and the like for half off the adoption fee.
Save the date: On Saturday, Feb. 23 we will be holding a Flapjack Fundraiser at Applebees in Thomaston to raise funds for PMHSKC's Trap Neuter Return program. Tickets are just $7 and are available at the Loyal Biscuit, Hollydachs, Pet Quarters, Huston-Tuttle and the shelter.
Wish list. Ziploc bags (quart and gallon-sized), stamps, gift cards to Walmart and Staples, canned cat food, laundry detergent, large garbage bags, sidewalk salt.
