Howison featured at Small Wonder Gallery

May 22, 2013
Portland jeweler Julie Howison has joined the roster of artists at Camden’s Small Wonder Gallery & Framing.

Camden — For the first time in 30 years, the newest artist at the downtown Small Wonder Gallery & Framing is a jeweler. Small Wonder, 1 Public Landing, will feature work by Julie Howison, a jewelry designer from Portland.

Howison’s body of work features geometric shapes, beach stones and glass in bezel settings; creative cables and cords to showcase pendants; and color and black patinas on silver. She is especially known for her imbedded spiral technique. Many of her pendants are reversible in that one side may feature a gem and the other a different feature, such as a soldered spiral.

A passionate jeweler for more than 30 years, Howison sells her work in galleries, museums and clothing stores throughout the United States. Her Portland studio overlooks her gardens and is in a natural setting, which she says aids inspiration. She has an abundance of self-collected stones from Maine for use in her work.

Everyone is invited to stop in and see Howison’s fine jewelry, as well as work by the gallery’s other talented artists. Small Wonder Gallery and Framing is open daily, with evening hours during the summer. For more information, call 236-6005; visit smallwondergallery.com; or check out the gallery’s Facebook page.
