1958 Class Lunch
The Camden/Rockport class of 1958 met for lunch at The Waterfront restaurant Feb. 13 at noon. Although there were only four classmates and one guest, they all enjoy a great time. Now you must remember that it was one of the days that snowed real hard. The next lunch will be Thursday, March 13, at noon at The Waterfront Restaurant. Be sure to mark your date book for this date.
Hope Ladies Club
Feb. 11, Hope Ladies Club enjoyed a very nice program under the direction of Linda Mank. The club would like to thank Linda very much for a great program. March 11 will be the next meeting with Linda in charge of another program assisted by Darlene.
Linda first passed out pieces of paper, which you wrote your name on. She then collected these, mixed them up, then passed these out. You were to write a sentence describing the person using a letter of the person's name. It was easy for some whose name only had 3 letters in it but if you got a name like mine with 8 letters it made you stop and think. Next she had cut out pieces of paper which stuck on another piece of paper making flowers. This was a team project. Then several people had written poems about meeting their husbands. Plus others told about this.
At noon wonderful-tasting pizzas were bought from Hope General Store. Dessert was cupcakes and cookies. Plus very nice punch made and served by Darlene Barrows.
During the business meeting a lengthy discussion was held on how to raise more money for the group. Suggestions were silent auctions, lawn sale and many more suggestions. It was voted to hold silent auctions most every meeting that's possible. Also every meeting each member will donate $2. If a member can not do this, donate what they can to the treasurer Ann Leadbetter and she will be the only person who will know how much each member donates. This will be done for a few meetings to see how it goes.
A wonderful day was enjoyed by all.
Next meeting will be March 11 at the fire station at Hope Cornor. Members are asked to bring a sandwich. Dessert and beverage will be provided.
All we have here in Hope is that last weekend it snowed quite a lot. It started snowing Saturday right into Sunday morning. So when we woke Sunday morning we had about 8 inches of new snow. Of course it had snow turning to rain early in the week. That storm left us with heavy wet sticky snow of quite a few inches, which was heavy to shovel and heavy to plow. We do not need any more storms but by the time you read this we are to have a lot more snow storms.
Kinetic Energy Alive Power Performance
Kinetic Energy Alive is coming to the Strom Auditorium in Camden April 4 and 5. Starting with fun videos about old school hip-hop and great dances by kids, moving into gritty dances by adults addressing real life issues like our economy and making a living for our families, the first act is a ton of fun and definitely opens your mind. Several Hope students are in the show! Tickets are available in the school office for $15.
February 28th Winter Buddy Activity
Time to shake off the cabin fever! We'll be having a winter fun buddy activity Feb. 28, after lunch. Depending on the weather, the activity will take place from 12:45 to 2:15 p.m. starting in the gym, then outside. We will have different activities and our main feature will be a dog sledding presentation with Ben and Aimee Hoops from Lincolnville.
Ben will not be doing demonstrations due to time and lack of space, but students will be able to see the (very friendly!!) dogs if they wish. He also has a PowerPoint presentation, so we will start with this in the gym. It will be great to get everyone outside for this activity, so please remember to bring warm clothing! We are also asking for anyone (kids/adults) with snow-shoes to bring them in to use and to share.
Parents with comments/concerns are encouraged to contact Ms. Gertner at school or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Anyone is welcome to join in the fun and help supervise.
African Dance & Drum Group
On Feb. 24, Partners for Enrichment is bringing the Senegal African Dance and Drum Troupe to Hope Elementary School at 8:30 a.m. This four-person African Dance and Drum Troupe will combine African drumming, dancing, acrobatics, stilt-walking, breathtaking costumes and innovative choreography. They will portray the songs, drumming, folktales, and traditions of native Africa. Parents are welcome to attend.
