Math and Literacy Mentors: Positions Available

Five Town Communities That Care is seeking caring adults who enjoy working with middle school students and who enjoy teaching basic math and literacy skills. Math and Literacy mentors work in the public schools in Appleton, Camden, Hope and Lincolnville. Mentors and students meet after school twice a week throughout the school year. These sessions are not “homework help.” During each of the two, hour-long sessions, approximately 15 minutes is devoted to mentoring students to promote an increased commitment to school, and the remainder of the hour is for skill-based tutoring. Training, guidelines and support are provided to mentors throughout the school year. Mentors may work as volunteers or receive a stipend. To learn more about becoming a Math and Literacy Mentor, please contact Marti Wolfe at Five Town Communities That Care for an application. A background check is required. Call 236-9800 or email marti@fivetownctc.org.

A note from Music at School

This is an update on our effort to raise $2,900 for two new tympani. We have had several donations and because of an individual who has offered to match donations, we only need to raise $1,278 more. If you would like to make a donation of any amount, please make your check payable to Hope Elementary School. There will also be an opportunity to donate at either Winter Concert. Thank you on behalf of the fifth-grade Beginner Band and the sixth- through eighth-grade Concert Band.

High School Alternate CSD Board position

We are looking for an alternate member of the Five Town CSD Board (the Camden Hills Regional High School board). This would be the perfect position for a middle school parent or for anyone who wants to learn about our school system after the students leave Hope Elementary. You don’t have to run for office, as Hope School Committee will appoint the member. Come and help support our town at the Five Town level. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Christine Alberi at 230-4913 or email calberi75@yahoo.com.

Seasons Greetings - William and I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. If you didn’t get a card from me - I am somewhat absent minded this year and didn’t mean to miss you.
