Home Kitchen receives 'Best Breakfast' award
A local breakfast hot spot has received recognition for its hard work, excellent service, and delicious fare.
"We were shocked and surprised," said Susan Schiro and James Hatch, owners of the Home Kitchen Cafe.
Upon receiving a package April 25, they opened it up to find the award. They have been chosen by Yankee Magazine's Best of New England Travel as the 2014 Editor's Choice "Best Breakfast" in New England.
"We are thrilled that they even know we exist," said Schiro of the award.
The couple said it is a group effort to run the cafe and cited they could not do it without the hard work that everybody puts in.
"It's an incredible compliment to be recognized like this with all the thousands of other restaurants in New England," said Schiro.
With all the preparation that goes into their menu, the couple has decided to stop their dinner service.
"We want to satisfy our customers and the secret to that is prep," said Hatch.
They also acknowledged they will be opening an ice cream parlor in the building behind the cafe. They said there is lots of work to do there, but plan on opening that up hopefully the end of June or first of July. The plan is to eventually add a bakery there as well.
