'Holiday' wraps up December series

Dec 21, 2013
Although they are the last to see it, the chemistry between Johnny (Cary Grant) and Linda (Katharine Hepburn) is undeniable in “Holiday.” Looking on are, from left, Edward Everett Horton, Jean Dixon, Henry Kolker and Doris Nolan.

Thomaston — Friends of the Thomaston Public Library presents its Friday Night Film Series with screenings weekly at 6:30 p.m. in the community room of Thomaston Public Library in the Thomaston Academy Building, 60 Main St./Route 1. December’s theme is Holiday Treats.

The series wraps Dec. 27 with "Holiday," a 93-minute film from 1938. Engaged to wealthy Julia Seton (Doris Nolan), freethinker Johnny Case (Cary Grant) discovers that her family wants to remake him into their idea of the perfect son-in-law — and he is beginning to consider compromising his values. But as he gets to know Julia's headstrong sister (Katharine Hepburn), he realizes he has more in common with her. Directed by George Cukor, this witty romantic comedy earned an Oscar nomination for Best Art Direction.

Friday Night Films are open to the public and free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted. Popcorn and drinks will be served. The Thomaston Academy building is handicapped accessible from the rear entrance. For more information, call the library at 354-2453.
