History of yachting, coastal charting
Camden — The public is invited to the final Sunset Seminar at Camden Yacht Club on the history of yachting and coastal charting with Osher Map Library.
The talk is Wednesday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m.
Author Lincoln Paine will discuss the history of yachting and improvements to coastal charting.
Boating is one of the oldest documented recreational activities in the world. It is known to Egyptians of the Old Kingdom and the Romans who lived halfway between their time and ours.
Paine is the author of five books on maritime history, including "The Sea and Civilization: A Maritime History of the World" and "Down East: A Maritime History of Maine." He is former guest curator of the Norman H. Morse Collection of Ocean Liner Materials at the Osher Map Library, University of Southern Maine.
