An aerial view of the first winter carnival on the eastern shore of Hosmer Pond in February 1936. The photo, from the collection of the Camden-Rockport Historical Society, shows vehicles parked on the ice with the plowed hockey rink in the center and tracks around it for cross-country ski races. The carnival was so successful that Camden Outing Club was formed and in September 1936 construction of the Snow Bowl lodge began at the foot of Ragged Mountain.
