Herring Gut to offer teacher training in aquaponics

St. George — Herring Gut Learning Center, 59 Factory Road, Port Clyde, will offer two sessions of training in aquaponics for teachers of grades K through eight this summer, from June 27 to 29 and July 11 to 13.

The workshop includes two and a half days of hands-on teacher training in aquaponics; a complete classroom aquaponics kit with tank, filter, pumps, planting materials and an operating manual; standards-based aquaponics curriculum materials; 1.5 continuing education units, or 15 contact hours, available through the University of South Maine.

Tuition for the course, including materials and supplies, is $635. Housing is available for $150 on a first-come, first-served basis in an historic farmhouse on the Herring Gut campus.
