Heirloom apples in Maine talk
Friendship — Pomologist John Bunker is coming to the Hahn Center in Friendship Saturday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. for a presentation sponsored by the Friendship Museum on heirloom apples found locally.
Bunker will be available to answer identity questions for mystery apples from 3 until 5 p.m. Come by the Hahn Center with an apple, a leaf from an apple tree, or pictures of trees so he can help answer questions prior to the apple talk.
Learn about the history of apples in New England, especially Maine, and how important they are to the environment. There will be apple related refreshments and a Q&A after the talk. Raffle tickets for a Harvest Basket filled with locally canned items and some books on canning will be sold.
The raffle will take place the following Saturday, Oct. 12, also at the Hahn Center during the Maine-ly Apple Auction. All food items auctioned will contain and relate to apples, prepared by local residents and delicious. All proceeds go to support the Friendship Museum. The auction starts at 11 a.m. and promises to start off that fall appetite with a scrumptious bang. For more information, please call Liga Jahnke at 832-6646.
