Hawks fly high in win over visiting MarinersGrindle, Robinson score points for visiting Oceanside
Eliot — Marshwood finished a mere three points shy of collecting a state title last season as the Hawks fell short of Class B high school football's richest prize in a 44-42 shootout to Mount Blue of Farmington.
Against Oceanside Friday night, Sept. 13, the Hawks (2-0) looked every bit as good, which did not bode well for the traveling Mariners (0-2), who made their longest road trip of the season.
In South Berwick, a mere stone's throw from the New Hampshire border, the Hawks rattled off 28 first-quarter points and 53 in the first three quarters as the Mariners dropped a 53-8 decision.
The Mariners trailed 53-0 after three quarters but managed a score in the fourth quarter — a 5-yard touchdown run by quarterback Hunter Grindle, while Gage Robinson cashed in the two-point conversion.
Marshwood's Lucas Blanchette had two touchdown passes in the win — a 40-yard connection to Beau Blanchette and a 50-yard hook up with Ryan O'Neil in the first quarter.
Sam Woodman also had touchdown runs of 20 and two yards, respectively, while Brett Gerry (30-yard TD run), Burt Down (40-yard TD run) and Kyle Parmley (7-yard TD run) also reached the end zone for the Hawks.
