Two new members were welcomed into the Kiwanis Club of Rockland on January 21, on the very day that Kiwanis International celebrated the 98th anniversary of its founding in 1915.

William 'Bill' Packard and Brooks 'Broo' Temple were officially inducted into the club following a vote to accept their applications by the board of directors at their monthly meeting on January 16th. Both had attended several club meetings prior to applying for membership.

The initiation event, which took place during a weekly Kiwanis meeting at the Samoset Resort in Rockport, was conducted by past lieutenant governor and past president Keith Wass of Lincolnville. Following an introduction by past president and past lieutenant governor Gordon Page of Owls Head, who invited the pair to join the local service club, Wass had Packard and Temple share in the reading of the Six Objects of Kiwanis.

Packard, an author, entrepreneur and coach to small businesses, is the founder and owner of bpackard.com and lives in Union with his wife Kathleen. Temple, who resides in Lincolnville with his wife Jennifer and their two young daughters, owns and operates Clean Bee Laundry in Camden. 

The Kiwanis Club meets on a weekly basis to determine community service projects and fundraising activities; to enjoy networking and fellowship opportunities; and to develop leadership skills.
