Camden — Guests who dine at Graffam Bros. Harborside Restaurant, 16 Bayview Landing in Camden on Tuesday, Feb. 5 between 5 and 9 p.m. will benefit Hope Elephants.

Patrons may order from the regular menu, and one-half of their check total (exclusive of tip) will be donated by the Graffam family to Hope Elephants, a nonprofit organization in Hope that cares for injured retired elephants and provides educational programming about elephants and wildlife conservation.

A representative of the organization will be present during the dinner hours to answer questions and talk about the project with anyone interested.

Resident elephants Rosie and Opal are settling into their new home under the care of veterinarian Jim Laurita, who is also a co-founder of the organization with his brother Tom Laurita. The elephants arrived in late October.

Fundraising is under way for an indoor educational area and an outside raised viewing platform. Development of a curriculum for use in schools is under way, and the thousandth schoolchild visited the facility earlier this month.

More information about Hope Elephants is available at its website facebook.com/hopeelephants, which can be read without logging into the social website.

Through its restaurant, the Graffam family is reaching out to help small local nonprofit agencies like Hope Elephants by hosting similar events on Tuesday evenings through March. The restaurant menu is available for viewing at its website, harborsidecamden.com.
