Graphic Shakespeare workshop
Rockland — Teens, in eighth grade and older, are invited to enjoy a free art and poetry workshop led by Chelsea Maude Avirett of Spyglass Tutoring Saturday, April 5, at 10:30 a.m. at Rockland Public Library, 80 Union St.
The Poetry Month Rockland event invites participants to illustrate a poem and completely alter its meaning. In this one-hour workshop, teenagers will make their own graphic/comic adaptations of a Shakespeare sonnet, experimenting with creative ways to illustrate, update, alter, undermine or even challenge Shakespeare’s own words.
Avirett is a poetry lover and the founder of Spyglass Tutoring, where she teaches humanities enrichment and college prep courses. Last August, she finished a doctorate in medieval English literature. She also has taught literature and writing classes to middle school, high school and college students.
