Gospel choir heads for Midcoast

Songs of Solomon

Rockport — Bay Chamber Concerts will present Songs of Solomon, an inspirational young adult gospel choir led by Pastor Chantel Renee Wright, Saturday, Dec. 14, at 3 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The dynamic ensemble will help kick-off the annual Rockport Holiday on the Harbor celebration.

Songs of Solomon, founded in 2001, is a gospel choir that seeks to uplift, inspire, serve, educate and entertain. This inspiring group is composed of young people age 16 to 22 from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds within the Harlem and neighboring borough communities. Under Pastor Wright’s leadership, the choir has garnered national and international acclaim, performing with the likes of Jessye Norman; and American Idols Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrio, as well as Elton John.

Pastor Wright is a firm believer that arts education stimulates children spiritually and intellectually, builds the family through its commitment to a child’s development, and gives a sense of pride and ownership to a community. From the steps of the York College Auditorium where the founders of the choir met on a hot August day many years ago, Songs of Solomon is today a thriving organization, having established the Songs of Solomon Academy of The Arts.

In a very short period of time, the choir has grown and has been seen on the “Early Show” on CBS; and has won first place prizes in the Gospelfest competition at Madison Square Garden, as well as the Pathmark Gospel Choir Competition. They have performed nationally and internationally.

Tickets are $25, $10 for those younger than 21. To purchase tickets for Songs of Solomon or to learn more about any of Bay Chamber's offerings, contact Joan Kulle at 236-2823 or visit baychamberconcerts.org.
