God is the Foundation of Good Government

By Gene Graves | Apr 28, 2014

Our founders recognized early on that the foundation for a good government only came through the blessings of God. Today there are those who claim that America is not a Christian Nation.

My friend, all one needs do is read the actual historical documents of Christopher Columbus on through to the Charters of the original Colonies to discover this one predominant characteristic, that they firmly believed and sought after God’s blessings.

Columbus wrote, “All those who heard about my enterprise rejected it with laughter, scoffing at me… Who doubts that this illumination was from the Holy Spirit? I attest that He [the Spirit], with marvelous rays of light, consoled me through the holy sacred Scriptures… they inflame me with a sense of great urgency… No one should be afraid to take on any enterprise in the name of our Savior if it is right and if the purpose is purely for His holy service.”

As you read the Charters of most of the early American colonists, you will find that their desire was always for the propagation of the Christian faith, starting with Virginia in 1606 and then Massachusetts, followed by Maryland and North Carolina, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Connecticut and New Hampshire…and on and on.

All of them in essence declaring, “Having undertaken for the glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith."

However, it becomes obvious today that America is broken. We all know that something must be done to correct this spiral descent into today’s confusion and certain disaster. Why and how do you think that America became the most prosperous and powerful nation in the world? To answer this question, let’s go back to our beginnings.

Why did they come here in the first place?…for Religious Freedom…the Christian Religion!

What religion did they want freedom to worship?…the Christian Religion!

What principles did they use as a foundation for their government?….the Christian Religion!

How did they become so prosperous?…by trusting in the God of the Christian Religion!

If you have doubts about this, let me invite you to find a Bible and look up the 28th Chapter of Deuteronomy and read it. You will discover the directions given by God, through their leader Moses, to the Children of Israel as they entered the “Promised Land.” God specifically tells them how to follow Him and have prosperity or not follow His laws and totally fail.

It is all very simple if you really want the truth. Of course, you must believe that what you are reading is factual information and not just a fable, as some say. What say you?

Then in closing, I thought this most appropriate. There was a French journalist, Alexis de Tocqueville who wrote in 1835 these thoughts after traveling throughout America.

“Upon my arrival in the United States, the religious aspect of the country was the first thing that struck my attention; and the longer I stayed there, the more did I perceive the great political consequences resulting from this state of things, to which I was unaccustomed. In France I had almost always seen the spirit of religion and the spirit of freedom pursuing courses diametrically opposed to each other; but in America I found that they were intimately united and that they reigned in common over the same country.”

God Bless America!
