Detroit — The Academy of General Dentistry announces that Michael Hersom, of Glen Cove Dental Associates, received the association’s Fellowship Award during the AGD’s 2014 annual Meeting & Exhibits, which took place June 26-29 in Detroit.

The AGD Fellowship Award is presented to dentists who seek to provide the highest quality dental care by remaining current in their profession. To earn this honor, Dr. Hersom completed more than 500 hours of continuing education, passed a comprehensive written exam, and fulfilled three years of continuous membership in the AGD.

This year, the AGD presented the Fellowship Award to 201 dentists nationwide. As a Fellowship Award recipient, Dr. Hersom joins more than 6,400 active AGD Fellows who have gone above and beyond the basic requirements to care for their patients’ oral health.

“We are proud to honor Dr. Hersom for his commitment to continuing education and the dental profession,” said AGD President W. Carter Brown, in a news release. “He has distinguished himself professionally among his peers and is a role model for both his fellow dentists and his community.”

Dr. Hersom graduated with honors from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1993, and completed a one-year AEGD residency at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in 1994. He has practiced at Glen Cove Dental Associates in Rockport since 1996.
