Give Me Shelter concert to benefit homeless animals
We are privileged to be able to help a lot of homeless animals each year. More than 1,200 in 2011. Some of the animals we receive at the shelter just need a health check, updated vaccinations and a dose of flea treatment before they are ready to be adopted. Many need to be spayed or neutered before they are ready. And then there are others, like our pet pick of the week Claire, who require additional, special medical care. Claire is a 1-year-old yellow lab mix who was brought in as a stray from Union. She came into the shelter with a condition called entropion eyes. When entropion occurs, the edge of the eyelid rolls inward, causing a painful rubbing of fur against the cornea. Claire recently had surgery to correct this condition and is recuperating nicely and will be in tip-top shape in short order and ready to go home. She is a super sweet girl good with kids, cats and other dogs and will make a great family pet.
Does your pet need a rabies vaccination? We are holding a low cost Rabies Clinic on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Warren Fire Department on Western Road. Dr. Craig Underhill from Warren Animal Hospital will be in attendance. The cost is only $10, cash only. Please bring your cats in a proper pet carrier and your dogs on a leash and last record of rabies shot if applicable.
Save the dates. Two great bands, The Rugged and 4Lo, are putting on a rock 'n' roll event, Give Me Shelter, to support HSKC. Join us on Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Legion Hall in Rockland from 8 a.m. to midnight to enjoy great music and raise money to help the animals. $10 donation, cash bar and refreshments.
On Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m., The Loyal Biscuit Co. and Trackside Station are hosting a fourth fun-filled Pints for Paws event to benefit the shelter. $1 from every pint sold will go to the shelter plus lots of raffle prizes. There will be live music from Paddy Mills. It's sure to be a great time.
Wish list: Laundry detergent, bleach, Ziploc bags (quart and gallon), dog and cat treats.
