Gartley & Dorsky opens Damariscotta office

Camden — Gartley & Dorsky Engineering & Surveying has expanded with the opening of a branch office in Damariscotta.

The Camden-based firm’s expansion includes the hiring of David “Dusty” Starr Jr., who commenced operations in the new office Sept. 3.

Starr is a licensed professional land surveyor with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Maine (2006) and is experienced in both land surveying and civil engineering. Starr previously served as vice president of J&D Engineering & Surveying, Inc of Waldoboro. Starr shares Gartley & Dorsky’s focus on high-quality services, attention to detail, and client satisfaction, making him a great fit for the firm.

The new office will enhance Gartley & Dorsky’s presence in the Newcastle-Damariscotta region and enable the firm to offer services to the area more efficiently and economically. Damariscotta operations will have full access to Gartley & Dorsky’s staff of 14 full-time employees in Camden, including four licensed professional engineers, three licensed professional land surveyors, one certified soil/wetland scientist, three engineering technicians and administrative support.

The new branch office will use Gartley & Dorsky’s state-of-the-art engineering and surveying equipment, including AutoCAD Civil 3D 2014, hydrographic/bathymetric survey equipment, and the latest in RTK GPS equipment and Robotic Total Stations.

The staff at Gartley & Dorsky has a 20-year history of providing surveying, civil engineering, structural engineering, environmental permitting, wetland identification, and soils and septic services to clients in the Midcoast area and throughout Maine. Projects range from large-scale developments such as schools and subdivisions to inspections and surveys for the individual homeowner.

High-profile projects that the firm is working on include: The Pitch, a new indoor sports and training facility slated to open in Warren in February 2014; The Mill at Freedom Falls, a historic rehabilitation project bringing new business and opportunities to Freedom village; and Front Street Shipyard, which continues to expand and invigorate the Belfast Harbor waterfront. In addition to private sector work, Gartley & Dorsky performs significant work for municipalities, land trusts and various non-profit organizations.
