May 12, 2014

Owls Head — The Leap into Spring Motoring Weekend, sponsored by The Mid Maine Sports Car Club May 3, started with a Funkhana, which saw 14 vintage sports and touring cars competing in six driving agility events that tested the skills of the car’s drivers and navigators.

First place was garnered by Sarah Rheault, of Camden, and John Freeman, of Bristol, in a 1926 Bugatti Racer. Second place went to Chris and Sandy Milton-Hall, of Bristol, in a 1968 Jaguar E-Type Roadster and third place was awarded to Bob and Sharon Kennedy, of Rockport, driving a 1976 MGB Roadster.

The Funkhana was followed by a Mountain Road Rally that traveled 60 miles through the mountains west of Camden and challenged the drivers and navigators with more than 60 clues requiring answers.

The event ended with a dinner at The Waterfront Restaurant in Camden where Rally first place went to Bob and Sharon Kennedy, second place to Ian and Kim Foster, of Sutton, Mass., in a 1987 Jaguar XJ6 Saloon, and third place to Bob and Kim Dougherty, of Boston in an MGB Roadster.
