Funeral planning class offered at Rockland church

Feb 05, 2013

Rockland — Rev. Eva Thompson is returning this year to offer, Planning your own funeral. Classes are being held at both Unitarian Universalist churches in Rockland and Belfast.

At First Universalist Church in Rockland, bring a bag lunch and join Eva on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, Feb. 14, from noon to 2 p.m. to look at funeral options, along with organ donation. There are many options that are kind to the environment and on pocketbooks, as well as options depending on how much loved ones want to be involved. The group will compare various funeral options (typical funeral vs. green burial, cremation, Alkaline Hydrolysis, donation to medical research etc.) and their costs, both financial and environmental. This class also is being offered at the Belfast UU Church on Monday, Feb. 11, from 6:30-8 p.m.

Then on Monday, Feb. 25 at the UU Church in Belfast, Thompson will focus on paperwork: she will have copies of Maine's Living Will forms for people to fill out. Learn about ideas for memorial services and obituaries, and get some plans started. A daytime option will be offered in Rockland if there are requests.

The class is free of charge and open to all. Donations accepted to cover programming costs. For more information, call Eva Thompson at 542-7991 or email Eva@MaineCelebrant.com.
