Rockland — There was a large turnout of friends, family and community members at the Elks Lodge in Rockland on Sunday, May 18, to celebrate the career of Charles Jordan Jr., recently retired Rockland fire chief.

Jordan was presented with a certificate of appreciation and award for his outstanding leadership as chief. Jordan was chief for 10 years and served the department for 25 years.

Interim Fire Chief Adam Miceli said of Jordan, "Over the years he's been my superior officer, though I never once felt inferior. He's been a mentor, a sounding board, a confidant and also, above all else, a friend."

"It just seemed like time [to retire.] The only sin greater than leaving too early is staying too long," Jordan said. "I can't tell you how proud I always was, and still am, to be connected with Rockland Fire and the fire service of Knox County."

Former City Manager Tom Hall also attended and said a few words to honor the chief.
