Free session June 17 to address adverse childhood experiences

Rockport — Knox County Community Health Coalition, the local Healthy Maine Partnership serving Knox County, and a member of the Midcoast Public Health District’s Behavioral Health Committee, is excited is excited to partner with United Way of Midcoast Maine to offer a free adverse childhood experiences resource and planning session to all community members and interested stakeholders.

The session will take place June 17 from 8 a.m. to noon with continental breakfast provided at Samoset Resort in Rockport.

The scheduled keynote speaker is Sue Mackey Andrews, facilitator, Maine Resilience Building Network, and president, SOLUTIONS Consulting Group, LLC.

Members of the panel include United Way of Midcoast Maine’s Diaper Bank and Home Visitation projects and Maine Behavioral Healthcare’s Maine Children’s Trauma Response Initiative.

Topics will include review of ACEs impact on mental and physical health and local projects and resources to address ACEs: diaper banks, visiting nurses, recognizing symptoms of childhood trauma, and county planning roundtables.

All are invited to attend this informative morning that will include an overview of Adverse Childhood Experiences effect on health, three local projects being planned to prevent and react to ACEs, and county breakout sessions to discuss actions attendees would like to see in the community.
