Free prenatal education program
Rockport — Pen Bay Women’s Health is encouraging new moms and mothers-to-be to learn how to live healthier lives during and after pregnancy.
Nurture Me — a series of three free healthy living classes — is available to all women who are maternity patients of the Pen Bay Women’s Health practice.
“Research shows that moms who attend prenatal education classes have healthier pregnancies and deliver healthier babies,” said Clara Buescher, certified nurse midwife at Pen Bay Women’s Health.
Staff members from Pen Bay Women’s Health, the Birth Center and the Picker Family Resource Center teach the classes. Topics include: how to prepare for a healthy pregnancy; how to relieve stress during and after pregnancy; eating for two, cravings and healthy weight gain; bonding with a new baby; breastfeeding, pacifiers, sleeping arrangements and more.
Classes are held every two weeks at the Picker Family Resource Center, located next to the Pen Bay Women’s Health practice. Patients can register for the free workshops by calling 596-8950. Program and scheduling information is also available at the new Nurture Me website penbaynurtureme.org.
Nurture Me is supported by a grant from the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention, through the Community Transformation Grant program, in partnership with MaineHealth. The Nurture Me project is managed by the Picker Family Resource Center.
