Rockport — The public is invited to enjoy Bay Chamber’s Odeon Winter Concert Tuesday, Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rockport Opera House, 6 Central St. The concert is free and all are welcome to attend. Odeon Allegro, Symphony and Adult orchestras, conducted by Deirdre McClure assisted by Gilda Joffe, will perform. The concert is sponsored by Camden National Bank.

The concert will feature work by Beethoven, Handel and the familiar “Scarborough Fair” of Simon and Garfunkel fame. In addition, chamber music will be presented by small groups of students who also are members of the Odeon ensembles. Refreshments of cookies and cider will be offered at the intermission.

Odeon concerts are a way for the community to honor and celebrate the student musicians from Bay Chamber Music School who have worked all semester to present this repertoire.

Bay Chamber Music School invites local musicians of all ages and abilities to audition for the spring term of the Odeon Orchestra program. Auditions will be held Tuesday, Jan. 29, between 3:30 and 5 p.m. at the school, downtown on the top floor of 18 Central St. The Odeon program is open to players of all instruments — strings, winds, brass and percussion. Auditions are for placement only; all musicians will be placed in an ensemble appropriate to their abilities.

Adults interested in joining the Odeon Adult Orchestra do not need to audition. For students taking lessons at the music school, membership in Odeon is free of charge. Rehearsals for all groups will begin Tuesday, Feb. 5, and scholarships are available.

The mission of the Odeon orchestras is to offer musicians the opportunity to play in a variety of ensemble settings; to develop the musical skills necessary for ensemble play; and to perform orchestral and other works in concert settings that are open to the public.

The Odeon Orchestra program is conducted by Deirdre McClure with coaching by Bay Chamber Music School’s head of faculty, Gilda Joffe. For more information, call Shaunna Brown at 236-2823 or send email to shaunna@baychamberconcerts.org.
