Free massage clinic
Waldoboro — Downeast School of Massage in Waldoboro will host its annual Free Student Children’s and Young Adult Massage Clinic May 24.
The clinic is an opportunity for children and their parents to become familiar with massage in a secure, supervised setting while massage students practice their skills with this special population.
“Children love massage, too,” said Nancy Dail, director of Downeast School of Massage. “We do not realize how many structural and postural problems children have as a result of carrying back packs, studying long hours, technology, sports and ordinary growing pains. Regular stress and anxiety play a role in the child’s life as well as the adult.”
Downeast School of Massage seeks to play an active role in relieving stress and relaxing common muscular discomfort in our adults of tomorrow. DSM offers a Maine State Licensed massage therapy program with more than 600 hours of training in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, pathology and related subjects. Each student must complete 66 hours of therapeutic massage including specialized clinics as well as additional outside logged hours, case histories, and core curriculum.
Appointments for the Children’s Massage Clinic are available May 24 in the morning at 9 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Parents must accompany children to sign release forms and help complete medical history forms. All ages 6 months to 18 years old are welcome to participate. To make an appointment to receive a supervised, student massage at the children’s clinic or for more information call the Downeast School of Massage between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 832-5531. The school is located just 2 miles up Route 220, north from Route 1, on Moose Meadow Lane.
