Free library cards for babies

Rockland — Rockland Public Library is now offering cards to newborns to help parents raise readers.

Any child, from birth through high school graduation living within the Regional School Unit 13 communities may receive a card, signed for by a parent or guardian. And Saturday, Feb. 2, is the perfect time to apply because this day is set apart as, Take Your Child to the Library! Day, a nationwide event in its second year.

The Children’s Room of the Rockland Public Library is gearing up for a fun-filled all-day event with prizes and snacks.

Activities include:

Story time and library orientation beginning at 10:30 a.m. and continuing all day; sharing books about libraries, and children’s tour of the library which includes a scavenger hunt; Fun Zone area for crafts, Lego’s, games and puzzles; treats in the afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m.; Guessing Game with prize winner announced at 4 p.m.; and an all day library card sign-up (with stickers) at the children’s desk. P.S. If a child lives in Knox County outside of RSU 13, the Friends of the Rockland Public Library will pay for the card.
