Free children's drawing classes in October
Rockland — There is still time to register children for free drawing classes being taught by Rockland architect Jason Merriam. The classes are being offered to children ages 4 to 7 years old on each Saturday morning in October from 9 to 10 a.m. Parents are welcome to stay and participate.
Merriam and his wife, local Glen Cove Associates Dentist Amy Campbell, have two sons and reside is Rockland. They know how much fun it is to draw with their boys and thought this would be a great thing to share with other kids and parents in the community, according to a news release.
The classes will be held in Merriam’s architectural office just left and above the Lobsterman’s Restaurant located at 423 Main St. in Rockland. All supplies will be furnished. The classes will be based on the architecture format. The children will be introduced to shapes, forms, color, room and building styles, computer drafting, and architectural drawing. Merriam believes it is never too early to have an influence on future designers and architects. Being a father, he knows how to make an educational experience a lot of fun too, the release said.
The couple are natives of Bucksport and Waldo and after college returned to the make the Midcoast their home. Merriam has worked at Higgins + Merriam for the past seven years. This year he became owner and principal architect of the firm, which specializes in commercial, educational and healthcare architecture.
