Rockland — Because the Jan. 2 snowstorm caused the cancellation of one of the two “Frankenstein” encores, the Strand Theatre, 345 Main St., will screen London’s National Theatre NT Live broadcast Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 2 p.m.

“Frankenstein,” staged in 2011, stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller alternating roles as Victor Frankenstein and his creation. The captured-live-in-HD rebroadcast Jan. 14 is the postponed evening version with Cumberbatch (“Star Trek: Into Darkness,” BBC’s “Sherlock”) as The Creature and Miller (“Trainspotting,” CBS’s “Elementary”) as Dr. Frankenstein. Oscar-winner Danny Boyle directs this production, which enjoyed a sell-out run at the National Theatre and went on to win awards including the 2012 Olivier Award for Best Actor for Cumberbatch and Miller.

Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein’s bewildered Creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker. Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal. Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.

Tickets are $23, $15 for students; contact the Strand for group ticket pricing. NT Live’s season of broadcasts will continue Jan. 30 with Tom Hiddleston starring in the title role of Shakespeare’s “Coriolanus.” For more information on all upcoming live concerts, films, HD broadcasts and events at the Strand, visit rocklandstrand.com; call 594-0070, ext. 3; or email info@rocklandstrand.com.
