Waldoboro — The Downeast School of Massage held commencement exercises for four new massage therapists from the 53rd graduation class and approximately 50 guests July 19 at the school in Waldoboro.

Kat Pound, Rockport, represented her class by speaking to the audience at graduation. Memories surfaced with laughter, gratitude, and tears representing the deep bonding shared by this class during the course of this year.

Nancy Dail, director of the school, delivered an inspiring speech that challenged the graduates to be soulful with their practice and recognize the calling of their vocation. She quoted Robert Frost’s poem, "The Road Not Taken" and suggested they all take a path that will make a difference in many people’s lives that they touch; to remember that in massage therapy they will have an opportunity to have an impact on the client’s whole person including body, mind and spirit. Dail offered congratulations and best wishes to the graduates. Assistant Director Emily Waltz Lash assisted with the diplomas and flowers. A reception followed the graduation ceremonies.

Graduating were: Bethany Blastow of Waldoboro; Kate Gerencer of Yarmouth; Heather Peaslee of Chelsea; and Pound. All of the graduating students are from Maine.
