Lincolnville — The Lincolnville Center Indoor Flea Market will start Saturday, May 17, and will continue the third Saturday of each month from May to October. The Market is held in the recently renovated Community Building located at 18 Searsmont Rd., Rte. 173, in Lincolnville Center, next to the United Christian Church. Doors will open at 8 a.m. The market runs to noon.

Many vendors are returning for the second season and will be selling a variety of merchandise, including antiques, crafts and household items. The Lincolnville Community Library will be selling books and the ever-popular Donut Lady will be offering her homemade donuts and baked goods.

This event is sponsored by the United Christian Church (UCC) which became the steward of the building when the local school no longer had use for it. The church took responsibility for the long-neglected facility and initiated a three-phase renovation project. Phase I was completed in the spring of 2012 and included many energy efficiency upgrades and cosmetic improvements. The church is now embarking on raising the funds for Phase II, which includes the construction of a kitchen and a handicapped-accessible bathroom equipped with a baby-changing station. The Phase II improvements will enable the building to be comfortably used by many more people and increase the variety of activities to be offered.

The estimated cost of Phase II is $45,000. The church is happy to announce that it has received an anonymous donation of $10,000 towards the cost of the handicapped-accessible bathroom and has recently been informed that the Conference of the United Church of Christ has approved a $5,000 grant for use on the project.

Church members will be selling select items to benefit the Phase II fundraising efforts. Tables are also available for rent by the general public. Rental fees go toward the upkeep of the Community Building. For details, call Mary Schulien, market coordinator, at 785-3521.

The public is encouraged to support the Flea Market and view the plans for the improvements. Donations for the Phase II improvements can be sent to the United Christian Church, P.O. Box 288, Lincolnville Center, ME 04850.
