Nobody home when blaze broke out

Fire destroys Waldoboro home

By Juliette Laaka | Jan 03, 2014

Waldoboro — There was nobody home at a Gross Neck Road property when a fire destroyed the residence Jan. 2.

A neighbor called in the fire at 8:11 p.m. and four local crews responded to the scene and worked past midnight in very cold temperatures, said Waldoboro Fire Chief Paul Smeltzer.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and the home is a total loss. The owner of the home, Jericho Sanborn, was not living at the property. It was rented by a tenant who the department has not been able to contact, said Smeltzer.

The Waldoboro department will be conferring with the state fire marshal's office during its investigation to determine a cause.

The Red Cross has not been notified of the fire at this time.

Bremen, Warren and Nobleboro departments responded to assist in fighting the blaze.
