Finding the Right Car Seat

By J. Edward Knight & Co. | Oct 18, 2012

Did you know the number one killer of children ages 1 to 12 years old in the United States is car crashes?  Finding the right car seat for your child is so important... but how can you possibly find the right one when there are so many different types and models.  Don't even get us started with all the confusing and complicated straps that you have to secure!

Parents Central, a website devoted to keeping kids safe in cars, gives these recommendations when you select car seats and booster seats for your children:

  • Select a car seat based on your child's age and size, choose a seat that fits in your vehicle, and use it every time.
  • Always refer to your specific car seat manufacturer's instructions; read the vehicle owner's manual on how to install the car seat using the seat belt or LATCH system.  Make sure you check height and weight limits.
  • To maximize safety, keep your child in the car seat for as long as possible, as long as the child fits within the manufacturer's height and weight requirements.
  • Keep your child in the back seat at least through the age of 12 years.
