Evangeline M. Johnson
Thomaston — Evangeline M. Johnson, 87, went home to be with the Lord March 7, 2013 at Windward Gardens in Camden.
She was born Oct. 13, 1925 in St. George to Thomas and Mildred Page McLean. She was raised mostly in Thomaston. She attended Thomaston schools and she left school early to go to work as a house maid during a time when money was scarce. She also worked as a stitcher at J.B. Pearson Clothing Factory in Thomaston.
She married Lewis Johnson in 1946. She became a homemaker and raised their two children. Later in her life she worked at Black & Gay Cannery until they closed. Then she worked as a nanny caring for young children. She loved to crochet and give away what she had made. She was a hard worker and devoted to her family.
She was a senior member of The Assembly of God Church in Thomaston. She loved attending church and all its functions. She was well liked by everyone who knew her. She really loved the Lord with all her heart. She was predeceased by their son, Conrad; her sister and two brothers.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Lewis Johnson of Thomaston; daughter, Ingrid Roman and her husband Ralph of Zephyrhills, Fla.; grandchildren, Eric Roman and Michael Roman; great-grandson, Owen Roman; nephews and nieces
A time of visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, March 11, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Hall’s Funeral Home, 78 Main St., Thomaston. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Village Cemetery in Thomaston.
