Equinox drumming at Gibbs Library
Washington — For the sixth year, Gibbs Library, 40 Old Union Road, is hosting the Ceremony of the 8000 Drums. Everyone is invited to participate in an equinox drumming Sunday, Sept. 22, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. All traditions are welcome and honored.
The sacred drums ceremony is dedicated to sending healing and peace around the world in synchronicity with drum groups in 192 countries. The Ceremony of 8000 Drums began in 2004 in Temoaya, Mexico. According to an ancient Otomi/Toltec prophecy, when 8000 sacred drums sound together, an intense healing of Mother Earth will take place.
The public is encouraged to bring hand drums or rattles and join the ceremony led by the Great Thunder Chicken Drum; come a few minutes early for a cleaning smudge and mingle with fellow participants before the festivities.
