Energy 4 Life event supports cancer research

Aug 11, 2012

Rockland — Maritime Energy in Rockland announced that the Karen’s “Energy 4 Life” Cancer Run/Walk 5K event will take place Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9 a.m. The event will raise money and show support for people who are fighting cancer.

“As many of you know our family lost our Mother Karen to colon cancer in 2010,” said Susan Ware Page. “Despite being misdiagnosed, she kept a positive attitude and you'd never know she even had cancer. We were so desperate for a cure and when the standard treatment options didn't work, we flew weekly to NYU Cancer Center praying the phase II clinical trial would be the cure. Mom was given one to two years to live and with her care, strength and positive outlook beat all odds and lived three years. Losing our loving Mother has been devastating to our family and we miss her so much.”

“Mom and my family started the Energy 4 Life program as a means to help others in their fight against cancer,” she said. “Our Mom had the zest for life, ‘Energy 4 Life,’ and she wanted to help others and to help find cures, so hopefully one day other families wouldn't have to experience what we did. Let's have the Energy 4 Life and, together, let's make a difference in the fight for much needed cures! All money raised will go towards the Energy 4 Life program and The Maine Cancer Foundation directed towards clinical research. The money raised will stay right here in the state of Maine.”
