Emblems and Elks
Being an Emblem member I recently had the opportunity to attend the Supreme Emblem Club Convention held in Portland, Maine. I sat with pride listening to the various Emblem officers and members giving their speeches, handing out awards, taking photographs. At the convention over 540 members registered from all over the United States, it was very impressive. To be a member of this prestigious club is quite an honor and very rewarding.
This past year the Rockland Emblem Club #200 along with the Elks Club #1008, have had three members holding the highest offices; Charlotte Mills, Emblem Supreme President of the United States 2012-2013, Martha Calinda, Maine State President, and Dwayne Guy, Elks Maine State President. That's alot of brass for one club and this has never happened in the history of either club in any one state across the country. Each club also has their own president as well, Bill Bachofner, Rockland Elks Exulted Ruler and Anna Sodergren, Rockland Emblem Club President. We congratulate all and are very proud of them.
The dedication, devotion and determination from all the officers and members of both these clubs is overwhelming. Though the membership numbers of the Emblem & Elk's clubs in this state is large, the actual number of active members is only a fraction of that number. The active members are dedicated hard working people who never back down from an opportunity to help someone in need. It is their determination that makes these clubs what they are today.
New membership is always welcome. If you are interested and need more information you can visit their websites at www.rocklandemblemclub.org and www.mainelks.org/rockland.html
