Elsie M. Eugley, 100, passed away peacefully Sept. 6, 2012, a day before her 101st birthday. She was born Sept. 7, 1911, in Amesbury, Mass., the only child of the late George L. and Lillian M. Davis Levensalar.
As a young girl Elsie spent summers in Waldoboro with her Grandmother Davis. After completing her schooling in Massachusetts she returned to Waldoboro and met Ruel A. Eugley; they were married Jan. 1, 1935, and raised four children. Elsie was a homemaker and a housewife. Working beside her husband she ran a roadside business, The Hornet’s Nest Grill, selling fried clams. They had a fish market selling fresh fish and later established the Waldoboro Smokers selling smoked alewives fondly remembered by many in the area. Elsie enjoyed knitting, handiwork, local history and bingo. She was an avid reader until her sight declined. She volunteered countless hours at Togus, the VA hospital, and remained a lifelong member of the American Legion Auxillary Charles C. Lilly Post 149. She was a member of the Waldoboro Senior Citizens, area sewing clubs and a member of the Waldoboro Methodist Church.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ruel A. Eugley, and a son, Allen M. Eugley.
Survivors include her daughters, Dawn Wright and her husband, Jeffrey, of Nobleboro and Nancy E. Smith of Thomaston; her son, Earlon R. Eugley of Maine and Florida; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
