TENANTS HARBOR — During the late evening hours of June 14, 2012, Elizabeth M. Chadwick died peacefully of natural causes at the age of 96.

Born in Rockland on May 21, 1916, she was the daughter of Bert D. and Florence A. Teel Simmons. She married Merrill A. Chadwick on Dec. 8, 1931, and remained so until his death in 1976.

Although she worked outside her home, her primary labor of love was the care and upbringing of her six children. She is survived by her sons, Alton R. Chadwick of Wiscasset and Roger A. Chadwick and his wife, Patty, of Connecticut; daughters, Gwendolyn L. Villano and her husband, Marty, of Florida and Port Clyde, Adele L. Wielock and her husband, Wally, of North Carolina and Cynthia A. Chadwick of Tenants Harbor. She was a surrogate mother at times to brothers Paul and Billy Anderson and a dear friend to many. She considered herself also blessed with 23 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; husband; five siblings; son Wilbur “Will” and his wife, Jean Chadwick; daughter-in-law Carmella Chadwick; grandchildren including Alton R. “Butch” Chadwick Jr., Rosanne Villano and the Margenelli twins.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 2 at South Parish “The Ridge” Cemetery in Martinsville. A fellowship luncheon will follow immediately at the Oceanview Grange in Martinsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. George Volunteer Firefighters and Ambulance Association, P.O. Box 249, Tenants Harbor, ME 04860-0249; and/or Kno-Wal-Lin Homecare and Hospice, 170 Pleasant St., Rockland, ME 04841.

Arrangements are in the care of Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland.
